Emergency Response Officer. Basic training

Every employer wishes to ensure that fires, accidents or other incidents do not occur in their organisation, but not all risks can be avoided. To minimise the consequences of fire and other incidents, all organisations are obliged to arrange in-house emergency response. Emergency Response Officers (EROs) provide quick and effective assistance when incidents occur, if necessary until the fire service, ambulance and/or police arrive. The EROs must be able to take the following action within a few minutes:
• administer first aid;
• combat and contain fires and prevent and contain accidents;
• raise the alarm and evacuate all staff and other individuals on the premises.

Each ERO must be trained for one or more emergency response task. The Emergency Response Team as a whole must be capable of fulfilling all the necessary tasks. This book describes the basic skills that an ERO must master in order to perform his duties in terms of first aid, combating fire and evacuation.
